One final word on doing things alone. It's not that I don't have friends - I have friends and acquaintances I could call on to do some things. It's not that I couldn't drag DH along, but here's the thing. We need to learn to live with ourselves and FOR ourselves. When we are alone - how do we handle a crisis? How do we handle the good times when we have no one to share our victories with? How do we handle the mundane things that happen every day? If we don't know how to ...

OH MY GOSH!!! Here's another reason why those hairbands are so important! And not just any old hairband. I have no idea where I bought the orange hairband I wear today, and I have no idea how long I've been wearing it. But yesterday, I mentioned in one group that I had known one of the attendees for several years but met for the first time last month at Quilt Canada.
Oh no -- she says! We met years ago at Quilt Market! She remembered the orange hairband! People do NOT remember me per se - it's that darn ...
read moreOh gosh—I'm not even sure where to begin or how to say it. The NEW Studio B is a dream come true! If only I had known years ago what I know now! Would I still have tons of UFOs? I might, but I sure would have looked at my buying and making habits a whole lot differently.
I guess it's like trying to tell a teenager to do something differently based on your experience. They don't want to do it and must learn their way.
Please do NOT be jealous of me and where I ...
read moreMerry Christmas to everyone! Thanks to all of you for supporting me in so many ways this past year (OK -- that's something I should say on New Year's Day), but I appreciate all the comments and feedback and know that many of you read the blog over morning coffee! No pressure on me to face an empty computer screen every morning and drum up something! I LOVE it!
I hope that your day is whatever you want it to be. Our day has always been quiet - no big families or groups of friends to celebrate with. And there ...
read moreThe Camino Frances (from Saint Jean Pied de Port) to Santiago is 778 KM for those interested in numbers. I walked 190 KM, so almost 1/4 of the route. My memory has wiped out the gory details, but other than day one, I think I walked with blisters. Am I looking for sympathy? No, but I would have enjoyed it much more without the feet issues!
I will go back -- I'm just unsure if I'll start where I left off or go back to the beginning. I'll see how it goes. I've been reflecting a ...
read moreYesterday my house was busier than an Amazon distribution hub! There was stuff being picked up and dropped off the ENTIRE day, and I was trying to work!!
I started to assemble the quilt top and had two rows together before the first interruption. I thought I was doing great.
Lynn was first, and she couldn't pick up the stuff any earlier as I had to make a pick-up from somewhere else, and I only did that the night before.
Back to work.
Then Emily stopped by to pick up something, and we hadn't seen each other in ...
read moreHow much time does one want to spend managing their stuff, or if I tell you how I really feel -- the crap accumulated over the years. For those of you that never let it collect -- I applaud you, but WHERE were you years ago when I needed someone to tell me NOT to buy so much. See how easy it is to pass the blame on to someone else! Sorry for that! NO -- I take full responsibility for the mess I created and take 100% responsibility for cleaning it up!
It doesn't matter what's happened in the past ...
read moreHow did your clean-up go around your sewing machine? I know that some people have accepted the challenge and have sent before and after pictures. I know I won't have time to post them today, so they will have to wait until tomorrow, and hopefully, we'll have a few more pictures to share. I think it's a fun (and necessary) exercise to clean up and deal with things. The most essential factor there is DEAL with things. It has taken me years to be accountable for the messes I've created and to DEAL with the things ...

I don't know about your households, but DH and I are on our own for breakfast and lunch. I make my own breakfast and lunch, and usually eat it at the computer, or sometimes lunch at the table reading something. The other day, I even ate lunch at the table in the office (aka the dining room). But dinner is reserved for face to face conversation.
We chat about books and interesting articles that he finds in the newspapers. And there seem to loads these days on people finding a hobby. All they have to do is pick up ...
read moreYes - I got photos for you today. A full tour of Studio U. I haven't been sewing a lot up there - there isn't even a sewing machine at the moment, but on some of the nice sunny days, I hope to move up! And speaking of the sun? Where has the sun been hiding? There was some sun yesterday when I went for my walk, but it's been pretty cloudy lately!
Did I get my e-mail woes solved? No. That was after spending two hours on the phone with Microsoft. At least the support person got my ...

When I refer to Tick Tock, I don't mean the program/app or whatever it is that people are watching these days. That's so funny as I used to be a TV junkie. I watched hours of TV every day. All the reality shows, comedy shows, and talent shows. I was addicted to the darn thing. Now there are all these subscription services and streaming services, and I have NO clue about any of them. New shows? Talent? Trends? No clue.
And you know what? I'm perfectly OK with that. I do watch some stuff on You-Tube ...
Don't hate me! But this quiet time has been a HUGE boon to my mental well being and wrapping my head around my quilting stuff. I've been the most productive for the longest period that I've ever experienced and I can only hope that this is going to continue once things get back to normal.
There are a couple of reasons for this increase in productivity.
1. I lucked out in the gene category. I spoke to my Dad yesterday. He's going to be 87 in a week or so. Is he bored? Is he watching ...
As I was working yesterday, I was contemplating my UFO situation. I realized that I have two kinds of UFOs. One is projects that are actually started and I guess qualifies as a true UFO. The other projects sitting around are those that have all the fabric purchased with a pattern (or not) and need to be started. They need to be stored separately. In some cases, those "kits" need to be disassembled and everything put back in the stash room!
I'm going to start with the REAL UFOs. I did take an empty box upstairs (oh yes - some ...
Ah - there's nothing like great weather for a drive up north to the retreat house. I'm not sure how many retreats I've been on, but a LOT over the last 10+ years. We're now up to FOUR retreats per year. Isn't that obscene? Well, one of the reasons I like retreats at Fireside Retreat House is that the price is extremely reasonable. Over the years, we've decided that a weekend was NOT enough. Then we added a day. That still wasn't enough and now our retreats are five days/four nights. That's ...
